Setting Up and Installing Dymo Printers
This guide contains the resources and steps to install and connect a Dymo Printer with your Ovation LIMS environments. Dymo Printers connect to Ovation LIMS using Dymo Connect Web Application. To install your Dymo Printer, you will:
1. Setup Dymo Printer(s)
2. Download the Dymo Connect Web Application
3. Install the Dymo Connect Web Application
In addition, your Ovation Implementation Team will configure Print Templates to generate Barcode Labels into your Ovation LIMS environment(s). Print Templates specify printer model (Dymo or Zebra), label size, and label contents. Print Templates are added to your Ovation LIMS organization during Implementation, or, by submitting a Project Request Form.

Supported Dymo Printer Models
- Labelwriter 450

Setup Dymo Printer
After downloading the Dymo Web Connect Application, you will need to connect the printer to your computer.
Download Dymo Web Connect Application
Use the following Link to download the Dymo Web Connect Application tool if you do not already have it installed on your computer
Note: Dymo Web Connect Application must be setup and running in order to view label printing options and print within Ovation LIMS environments
Install Dymo Web Connect Application
Lastly, to complete your Dymo Printer setup, you will install the Dymo Web Connect Application tool.
1. Open/run Dymo Connect Application
2. Click “Start Service”
3. Click the “Diagnose” button
4. A pop-up will appear that states “DYMO Label Web service is running on port #####. Do you want to open a test page to check the certificate?”
5. Click “Okay”
6. A certificate saying, “Congratulations! DLS Web Service is up and running. You can now print from supported web sites.”, will open on your browser.
Test Printer in Ovation LIMS
Note: Ovation LIMS Print Templates must be loaded into your Organization by your Ovation Implementation Team before you can print
1. Login to an Ovation LIMS environment
- For Sandbox or first time testing, go to Ovation LIMS Sandbox
- For Production or final validation, go to Ovation LIMS Production
2. Click Requisitions in the top bar
3. Click on any printer icon to the far right of a requisition identifier
4. Verify that the barcode label template(s) is/are available in the drop-down list
5. The label should PRINT. If nothing appears, contact your Ovation Implementation Team
Tip: All available print template links within a dropdown menu are clickable even though not all links are green

Troubleshooting
Cannot see label Templates in the dropdown menu
If you do not see any label templates available from the dropdowns in Ovation LIMS/Ovation Portal:
- Open the Dymo Web Connect application to confirm that Dymo Connect Software is running. Use this Link to troubleshoot the Dymo Web Connect Application
- Enable pop-ups and reload the page to allow necessary Cookies for Ovation LIMS Sandbox and Production.
Note: You must say yes to the pop-up on your browser for Dymo Printers to function
- If none of the above methods work, clear your cache and try reloading the page (see our Clearing a Web Browser’s Cache article)
Labels will not print in Ovation LIMS/Ovation Portal
If a label will not print in Ovation LIMS/Ovation Portal:
- Check that the Dymo printer is plugged into your computer
- Open the Dymo Web Connect application to confirm that Dymo Connect Software is running. Use this Link to troubleshoot the Dymo Web Connect Application
- Contact your Ovation Implementation Team to confirm that your label templates have been loaded into your Ovation LIMS organization
Label prints wrong font size or wrong info
If a label is displaying the wrong font size or wrong information:
- Contact your Ovation Implementation Team to confirm that your label print templates have been loaded into your Ovation LIMS organization
